I happen to like art that goes against traditional standards of what is typically considered art... like some really girly flowery landscape or a Georgia O' Keefe painting that suspiciously looks like some female anatomy. I think that these pieces of art are individualistic and say something about the artists. The Picasso piece is well... why would it be controversial? I can see that there's nudity, but alot of other famous pieces have nudity and I don't see them on this list. When I saw Takashi Murakami's work, I seriously thought, "What are these people smoking that makes it controversial?"
It's really kind of crazy what people think is this way... don't they realize that art work is an expression of the artist and not of them?

I agree with you Nena. Those pieces speak about the artist. Art is more free expression, not a critics decision. Plus did you see that fountain that looked like a urinal!!! xD By the way THERE IS NO MERCY IN THIS DOJO!!!

ReplyDeleteI think that people who view nude art as controversial are just ignorant. There is nothing wrong with the human body and no ones forcing you to look at it so if you don't like it then ignore it. I agree that non-traditional art is sometimes the most interesting to see because it's something different and new. This art should be celebrated, not scoffed at.
ReplyDeleteI find art that goes against the norm to be very interesting too. It makes me try to figure out what is going on, what it means, and it definitely gets more of my attention. So who cares if they're controversial, they're getting my attention.
